Lordy Lordy 03:05
Well I’m stuck in a corner I got two girls on my plate One’s wearing my wedding ring And one is two months late My daddy had religion And I would hear him sing Lordy Lordy going to save me from sin Lordy Lordy going to save me from sin Well I’m stuck in the middle And I don’t know what to do One girl says she’s leaving town And one girl says we’re through If I had religion You know that I would sing Lordy Lordy going to save me from sin Lordy Lordy going to save me from sin I don’t know why I always seem to be Drunk and in trouble With the woman of my dreams Momma told me when I was boy one day I’d see Whiskey and women going to be the death of me Well, I’m stuck in the gutter And my bottle’s almost dry I can’t have a sober day No matter how I try Whiskey’s my religion Together we will sing Lordy Lordy going to save me from sin Lordy Lordy going to save me from sin I don’t know why I always seem to be Drunk and in trouble With the woman of my dreams Momma told me when I was boy one day I’d see Whiskey and women going to be the death of me Lordy Lordy going to save me from sin

I was driving by the graveyard And what did I see My loving baby She’s down on her knees Her hair’s all disheveled She got tears on her face My loving baby She’s crying over another man’s grave Another man’s grave I hid on a hill Behind an oak tree Where my loving baby She couldn’t see Then I watched my baby All through the day Before it was over She’d cried over a dozen men’s graves A dozen men’s graves Well I fell asleep Against that old oak I heard a twig snap And then I awoke She’d snuck up behind me Where I couldn’t see Then my loving baby She made me old number 13 Old number 13 She put a log upside my head and my baby She made me old number 13

Driving out on Brushwood Road I got one hand on the wheel I got my windows open And a cold wind I can feel I got moonshine in the back Lord it’s a heavy load I’m going to meet my fate tonight Out on Brushwood Road I lost my job and then my wife About a year ago The bankers tried to take my house But I said I won’t go I met a man who said that he could Help me, don’t you know I’m going to meet him here tonight Out on Brushwood Road All my life I’ve been working hard To keep my head above water Doing what I can to get through every day They say you can’t change the way things are But I’m trying to find a way I saw him standing in the road A shotgun in his hand The meanest looking man I’ve seen In this forsaken land He handed me a wad of bills Then he dropped his shotgun low I showed him my old 44 Then I watched him hit the road All my life I’ve been working hard To keep my head above water Doing what I can To get through every day They say you can’t change the way things are But I finally found a way

Where is my baby Where did she go Are those her footprints There in the snow If she finally left me I don’t blame her at all She wanted me to hold her I let her fall For so long she listened To my lies and schemes Setting aside all Her hopes and dreams If she finally left me I don’t blame her at all She wanted me to hold her I let her fall All she ever wanted Was a man to hold her tight Whisper sweet nothings In the night She gave me her love And I squandered it all She wanted me to hold her I let her fall Winter is over Spring’s round the bend I never thought that Our time would end But she finally left me I don’t blame her at all She wanted me to hold her I let her fall All she ever wanted Was for me to hold her tight Whisper I love you Every night She gave me her sweet love And I squandered it all She wanted me to hold her I let her fall She wanted me to hold her I let her fall

With shining eyes As dark as stone She dances, all alone A piece of heaven A comet’s tail Her soul is unveiled When Sarah dances Our hearts dance with her A ballerina A curled foot When Sarah dances She spins and she twirls A ballerina She fills our world So many dresses All in a row Like layered petticoats They rise and fall Float to and fro Her face is all aglow When Sarah dances Our hearts dance with her A ballerina A clubfoot When Sarah dances Sweet little girl A ballerina Light up the world A ballerina Sweet little girl

If you drive to the edge of town Down an old dirt road Out past Fred Tuttle’s farm You’re gonna hear a croaking toad Go through the covered bridge Where the winter river heaves On by the sugar stand Where the wind cries through the leaves Turn left at the old grist mill The beams they creak and moan You’ll see the whisper tree As silent as a stone Go through Ghost Valley Where the wind always blows You’ll hear the sweet sweet sounds Of Benny’s Silvertone Some folks say Ben was born On a ship out on the sea Waves crashing across the bow Used to rock that boy to sleep One night when the moon was full Three sisters came to call A little baby washed up by the tide Was all they ever found Little Benny lived like a gypsy He roamed from town to town The only good thing that happened to him Was an old guitar he found People came from all around To hear him make that guitar moan Hypnotized by the sweet sweet sounds Of Benny’s Silvertone Some folks say the gypsy boy Built a cabin in the woods Just back from Vietnam He was leaving the world for good The townsfolk couldn’t understand Why he never came to town So one night some good old boys Decided to track him down They’d heard that Benny robbed a bank And the woodpile hid the gold They’d soon regret believing All the stories they’d been told They townsfolk went to find those boys When they never turned up home But all they found was the sweet sweet sounds Of Benny’s Silvertone

Ghost Shadow 04:18
Ghost Shadow crossed my path today Ghost Shadow crossed my path today Look back, look down There laying on the cold, hard ground Ghost Shadow crossed my path today A glimpse of a child Unguarded in the wild Ghost Shadow crossed my path today Ghost Shadow called my name today Ghost Shadow called my name today A whisper in my ear Same story all these years Ghost Shadow called my name today Been haunted for so long Been singing the same old song Ghost Shadow called my name today Ghost Shadow brought me home today Ghost Shadow brought me home today Look back, look down Bury me in the cold, hard ground Ghost Shadow brought me home to stay Moon riders in the air Ghost Shadow is everywhere Ghost Shadow brought me home to stay

See her soaring through the sky A peregrine falcon way up high West Fairlee Falcon On the day that she was born A blizzard on an April morn West Fairlee Falcon Born into a raptor nest Raised from birth to be the best Skiing at Mad River Glen Catch her if you think you can West Fairlee Falcon Storrs Hill jumping through the air Flying home without a care West Fairlee Falcon Raised among these hills of green Toughest bird you’ll ever see Over in the land of snow She clicks her skis, look out below West Fairlee Falcon O’er the ocean flying home Her talons clutched a crystal globe West Fairlee Falcon When she sets her sights on you There ain’t nothing you can do West Fairlee Falcon West Fairlee Falcon West Fairlee Falcon

My baby took a long walk Down along the river A gypsy woman told me She’s long long gone A mist fell on the river The moon was rising high A ghostly apparition She’s long long gone She’s long long gone Without a trace In my dreams I see her face No one knows Where she went She’s long long gone Thunderclaps and lightning Flashing in the sky An echo down the valley She’s long long gone A fog embraced the willows Weeping through the leaves A shadow of a memory She’s long long gone She’s long long gone Without a trace In my dreams I see her face No one knows Where she went She’s long long gone My baby took a long walk Down along the river Ain’t never going to find her She’s long long gone

Jessie, hold the apple blossoms Hold them tight Yours is such a tragic tale An angel cries tonight Walking through a field of grass On a Springtime day Holding little Reggie’s hand He loves to walk this way You are thirsty So you stop by the well It’s cool and damp, inviting you To stay and rest a spell The water runs through your fingertips Its coolness passes between your lips You stay while the sun moves through the sky The moon’s reflection is in your eyes Little Reggie’s fever It will not break tonight And his eyes will never See the morning light Darling Jessie Pray to your mama tell What it was, my dear That happened at the well The water ran through our fingertips Its coolness passed between our lips Oh mama, I believe I’ve taken ill Daddy, hold my hand now if you will Jessie holds the apple blossoms Sitting in a chair Freckles on a pretty face Beneath her curly hair She was five years old A century ago She and little Reggie They never would grow old The water ran through their fingertips Its coolness passed between their lips And now in stories that old uncles tell Death was waiting in the well

about

A very special thanks to my wife, Bernice. This album is built upon a foundation of your love and support. You are my greatest inspiration.

A loud shout out to Ted Mortimer and Vincent Freeman. Ted worked tirelessly during these recording sessions, playing excellent guitar across a wide variety of genres. He even co-wrote a couple songs with me specifically for this project. Vincent jumped in to help with whatever needed doing, including backing vocals/percussion. He also chipped in with some wonderful ideas as we used his studio space to experiment with sound.

So grateful for my journey through musical time with Ned, Mac, Mike, Ed, Chip, Kenny, Rick, Randy, John, Charlie, Chico, Earl, George, Deano, Ty, Rob, LJ, Jeremy, and Gary “Razz” Respess.

This album is dedicated to Ned Casey and Don Odell. Ned is a lifelong friend/musical collaborator who long ago helped me to discover the music that rested in my soul. Don keeps music alive at Don Odell’s Legends and several years ago he helped me find my music again when I thought it was lost. Without Ned and Don, this album would never have happened. I owe you both a debt of gratitude I can never truly repay.
